Sara qualified as a vet from the University of Barcelona in 1998 and has gone on to earn a Masters in Science and a Certificate in Poultry Medicine and Production. She became a director at PHS in 2016. She has consulted around the world, written articles for scientific poultry magazines and chairs poultry meetings on a regular basis.

Nikky joined PHS in March 2016 following a long and varied public sector career. She became Commercial Manager in August 2018, drawing on experience including 10 years in a police control room, and 16 years living with her family on a turkey farm. In her spare time, Nikky enjoys travelling, comedy events and family time with her three grandchildren.

Meaka has been with PHS since 2013, starting as a lab technician at our Dalton practice before moving to Sheriff Hutton to become Poultry Communications officer, since winning promotion to Commercial assistant. She has a BSc in Animal Science and in her spare time she enjoys spending time with her two children and all of their pets!

Lead Vet (North East)
Emma graduated in 2016 from the Royal Veterinary College, having aimed to work with poultry all the way through university. She spent 5 years with the PHS team in North Yorkshire, before taking a year out of clinical work to gain on-farm experience as an Area Manager for a broiler/turkey integrator. She returned to PHS Sheriff Hutton in 2022, as the veterinary lead for the North East. Her main interest is in turkey work, with a focus on gut health. Emma has a post-graduate diploma in Population Health, Statistics and Epidemiology, and sits on both the APHA Avian Expert Group and the BVPA Committee.

Carol graduated in 2000 from Zaragoza University. She joined the practice in 2007 after working within the meat industry all over the UK and moved to the Sutton Bonington branch from Hereford. She enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling, walking and rowing.

Lead Vet (North West)
William grew up on a mixed farm on a shooting estate in Yorkshire. He qualified in 2014 and has spent time as a farm vet in New Zealand. He enjoys teaching students and vets about different avian species via lectures and roadshows. Will is the PHS Lead Vet for Gamebirds and also Backyard Poultry and was made lead vet at PHS Shrewsbury when it opened in 2019.

Rafael graduated from Porto University in 2010 and started work in the UK in 2011, seeing farm animal practice in Cornwall, followed by a three-year passage in the Animal and Plant Health Agency. Rafael is a keen runner and climber, and once tried a 54 mile walk in 24 hours for charity.

Lead Vet (Devon)
Alistair graduated from the RVC in 2019 and worked for a year as a farm vet at home in Devon, before joining Mount vets as a mixed poultry and large animal vet. This role transitioned into doing only poultry and gamebird work, which timed perfectly with the merge of the practice with PHS. His interests in the poultry world are with free-range layer flocks and laboratory work. Outside of work, he plays cricket in the Devon league, and enjoys walking the dogs around the beautiful Devonshire countryside.

Ellie graduated from the University of Surrey in 2020 and started working for a pharmaceutical company as their technical vet, with a focus on pigs and poultry. After enjoying this role for 3 years, she decided to move into clinical practice and joined PHS in 2024. Ellie has an interest in poultry intestinal health, having spent a lot of time looking at coccidiosis in broilers previously!

Hannah graduated from Nottingham Vet school in 2011 and worked as a mixed large animal and poultry vet for 11 years. She then had a two year break during which she worked on her husbands game rearing farm and shoot, and welcomed their daughter into the world. Within the poultry sector her main interests are game bird rearing work and free range layers and loves getting to know the farmers and visiting their sites. Outside of work Hannah likes to take their six dogs on lots of beach walks, especially at her home town of Barry Island.

Stuart qualified from the Royal Vet College, London in 1994 after completing a degree in Animal Science at Reading. He worked in two large animal practices before setting up his own business in Mid Devon in 2001. In 2011 he merged his practice with Mount Vets in Somerset where he was a Director until semi-retirement in January 2023. Mount Vets sold the poultry business to PHS where Stuart now works on a part time basis. Stuart has been involved with his beloved local rugby club, Cullompton RFC, since moving to Devon in 1997. He has been married to Gail since 1995, whom he met at Reading Uni, and has two grown up sons.

Joaquin graduated from Zaragoza University in 1996. After working for a large animal practice mainly on sheep and cattle, he worked in abattoir inspection and export certification. During this time, Joaquin completed a MSc in poultry applied science. In his spare time, he enjoys jogging and hiking holidays.

Megan graduated from Liverpool University in 2018 with a Distinction and spent a few years in mixed practice before deciding to pursue her long-standing interest in pathology and infectious diseases with Poultry Health Services. Outside of work Megan enjoys walking her Jack Russel, Boris, and helping her husband on their busy dairy unit.

Aileen graduated from University College Dublin in 2019 and spent a few years working as a mixed farm animal vet in Northern Ireland before pursuing a career in poultry. Aileen breeds show quality bantam poultry in Ireland and has a keen interest in the game bird industry. In her spare time, Aileen enjoys hiking and also training and competing her trialling springer spaniels, Tizzy and Lacey and newest addition Ollie.

Laura graduated from Valencia University in 2018. Laura worked in abattoir inspection, export certification and farm inspection all over the UK before she decided to join PHS as a poultry intern. Outside of work Laura enjoy's hiking with her dog Yuca, reading and playing the Spanish guitar.

Ashley graduated from the RVC in 2013 before spending the next 11 years in farm animal practice. She joined PHS in 2024 looking for a new challenge. She spends her spare time tending to her flock of pedigree Badger Face Texel sheep, or her allotment with her husband and dog, Moth.

Abbey graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2024 and wanted to pursue a career in poultry straight away. She is keen to experience all aspects of the poultry industry whilst completing her internship with PHS. Outside of work, Abbey enjoys trail running on the Yorkshire moors and playing the bagpipes.

Kath qualified from Bristol University in 1995 and has been working for PHS as a part-time vet since 2005 after time in mixed and small animal practice. She is largely based in Howton. Outside of work, Kath is kept busy running around after her young family.

Alison has recently joined the practice after nearly 20 years enjoying all aspects of small animal practice. Now ready for a new challenge and chapter she is very much enjoying being part of the PHS team. Her husband Glyn is a keen clay shooter and they have young daughter who keeps them very busy. Outside of work Alison enjoys travel, gym classes and a good old muddy dog walk.

After graduating from Bristol in 1985, Richard worked for a year in Somerset where he treated animals at Longleat Safari Park. Afterwards he settled in Tarvin, where he has been ever since. He is experienced in the care and treatment of pigeons and backyard poultry, and works as a consultant for PHS, dealing with health certification and exports.

Lucia Hardisty, originally from Bedfordshire, graduated from the University of Liverpool this summer and loved the Northwest so much that she decided to stay. This is her first veterinary job, and she is excited to experience all that the poultry industry has to offer. In her spare time, she enjoys seeing live music, walking, and visiting stately homes and castles.

Sergio graduated in 2020 from Complutense University (Madrid). After working in export certification all over East of England area he decided to join PHS as a poultry intern, due to his keen interest in infectious diseases and preventive medicine. In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, cooking and playing the guitar.

Sophie is a 2015 University of Liverpool graduate of Veterinary Science with four years’ experience as a small animal vet. She carried out a UFAW funded student research project in 2012 on risk factors of stereotypical behaviours in growing pigs. She is currently studying for a Master's degree in International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law from the University of Edinburgh.

Persie graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2023 and after enjoying her placement with PHS Sutton Bonington in her final year, applied for the poultry internship. Persie has always had a keen interest in poultry after owning chickens when she was younger and she is keen to see where her interests within the poultry sector takes her. In her free time, Persie enjoys playing video games, crafting, walks with her dog, Echo, and visiting her friends!

Cosmin graduated as a vet in 2010 from the University of Bristol, and followed his veterinary degree with an MSc by research in veterinary parasitology and a PhD on the development of vaccines against Campylobacter in chickens. He has extensive experience of laboratory and in vivo research on poultry infectious diseases and microbiological food safety. Outside of work he enjoys hiking with his dogs, gardening, mountain-biking, and more recently dabbling in taxidermy.

Dr Henry has worked on disease control programmes in Asia, West Africa, Australia, the UK and Latin America. He has been a Chief Technical Advisor to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and has held senior management positions in the animal health industry in the USA. His regulatory and export experience comes from Veterinary Officer positions held in the Australian and UK governments. He has served as a Commissioned Veterinary Officer and Company Commander in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps.

Anna graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Budapest in 2018. After graduation, Anna moved from Ireland to North Yorkshire to start her first job as a mixed animal vet. It was during this time, she discovered that she enjoyed doing Official Veterinarian work. Anna did this for two years, but missed the variation of the mixed position, so decided to become a part time small animal vet and a part time official veterinarian, and joined the team at Sheriff Hutton in November 2022. In her spare time, Anna enjoys hiking with her partner and their three spaniels: Ronni, Rua and Moose. Anna also enjoy music quiz nights and traveling.

Katy joined the practice in 2011 as office administrator at Howton. She is now the practice manager for the Herefordshire offices overseeing the administration team in Howton and Leominster. She enjoys spending time with her young family, getting outdoors and holidaying to Cornwall.
Poultry Administrator
Andrea oversees reception at Howton and is the first point of contact for clients coming into or telephoning the branch. She also handles admin, including managing stock, updating records and sending out vaccines. She is married with two grown-up children – still living at home – two step-children and four step-grandchildren.

Sam joined us as a school leaver and has been with us ever since. During that time she has successfully completed both an animal care and veterinary nursing assistant course at Reaseheath College and a qualification in companion animals from Harper Adams College. At home, Sam has a pampered farm cat called Agnes.

Ana is our Veterinary support officer. Ana joined PHS in February 2022 starting as an administrator and has now become an assistant to our veterinary team, going to farm taking samples, dropping off vaccines, medication, and biosecurity products. Ana is an equestrian girl from Herefordshire who regularly competes across the UK and isn’t afraid of hard work and getting stuck in.

Abbie joined the team in April 2024 after working in the game industry for 3 years on a rearing field. She spends her spare time clay pigeon shooting and also enjoys travelling and walking her dogs.

Leon originally from Kidderminster moved down to Devon in 1985 and served as a police officer for 30 years, spending the majority of his career in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) He retired in 2013. He joined the Mount Vets in July 2014 working at the Colliton Barton practice where he is front of house/Farm Coordinator - also helping our vets by doing lab work and general DIY. He enjoys family time, going away in his campervan, music festivals and supporting his local Rugby Club.

Sarah joined the team in December 2023. She qualified as a Meat Hygiene Inspector with the MHS (now Food Standards Agency) in 1998, studying at Salford University, Manchester. Her working life has predominantly been within the meat production and enforcement industry, with previous employers being Lloyd Maunder LTD, Two Sisters Food Group and Eville & Jones, to name a few.She is a mother of two. In her spare time she enjoys fishing and foraging in our glorious Devonshire countryside. She loves to bake and develop recipes for her family and friends.

Claire grew up visiting her Grandparents dairy farm in the school holidays and from that, her love of animals grew. Claire went to Bicton College to study horse management then went on to work with horses for 10years including event, show jumping and point to point yards. Claire also worked at a Donkey Sanctuary for 12 years, 9 of those as part of the veterinary department in the new arrivals unit, very interesting! Claire's hobbies include being an assistant coach for her daughters football team and also competing in agility competitions with her 2 border collies, Mozzi and Spyder who are both in the top grade 7!

Maurice has recently joined the team (Sept 22) previously working for 30 years in the Poultry Industry, progressing through the years to Agricultural Regional Manager. He really enjoys DIY and would love to build his own home. He is a big F1 fan and also enjoys spending quality time with his grandson.
