Exciting News: For The North West Team

PHS North West has outgrown its current facilities at Manor Court Vets in Tarvin, Cheshire. This month we’re delighted to announce the North West branch will be moving to a new site in Tarporley. The new building has been fitted out to provide better post-mortem, laboratory and storage facilities, and improved staff facilities. The new location remains easily accessible for both current clients and prospective clients as it is only 6 miles from the current site in Tarvin and hosts a large accessible car park. The move is really positive for us and gives us a space for expansion within the North West as well as scope to broaden the range of services we offer, which is very important for the progressive industries that we serve. For the moment our phone line remains the same 01829 740639 but is due to change in due course, we will keep you informed when this happens.  Look out for more information next month’s newsletter.

Dark winter nights and security on farms

There have been a few incidents of activists breaking into poultry farms. Remember to lock your gates and sheds in the evenings and make sure that you have enough lighting around your sheds to deter any unwanted visitors. The use of CCTV cameras is also recommended.

Are you ready for change?

Professional rodenticide users have 2 years to prepare for changes in the access to second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) products. From January 2026 onwards, all pest controllers, gamekeepers, and farmers who use these rodenticides must hold either a stewardship-specific training certificate less than five years old, or an older one with proof of membership of a stewardship-specific Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme. The Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use UK (CRRU) has decided to implement these changes in a continued effort to reduce rodenticide residues impacting wildlife. If you use the products and will continue to do so in 2026 then you will need to ensure you undertake CRRU-approved training and certification.

Product of the month: AgriCure Prebiotic

AgriCure Prebiotic is a high-specification product that includes a mix of vitamins, fibres and antioxidants that promote good intestinal health. It reduces the risk of harmful bacteria, such as salmonella, and gets the chicks off to the best possible start, particularly if given after AgriCure Probio. This product is routinely used in broilers over 20 days to prevent enteritis and heart attacks. It is also used by  a number of egg producers in periods of stress such as after transport, peak of lay, change of feeds or around vaccination times to support the immune system. It has also been used as a more broad-spectrum product to traditional multivitamins. The dose of this product is  375 mls of prebiotic per 1000 litres of drinking water for 5 days.
