August 2023 Newsletter

Could your site benefit from one of our Broiler or Layer packages?

The demand for veterinary and laboratory packages in the last 12 months has rocketed. With continuous increases in the cost of living and uncertainty about the economic future, a large number of producers have opted for fixing their veterinary and laboratory costs with “all-inclusive” packages for a year.

How do the packages work?

We have 3 levels of the package: standard, intermediate, and premium, which offer significant savings when compared to paying for “ad hoc” services. The standard package includes the minimum that you require in terms of testing and veterinary health plans to be compliant with the Red Tractor standards or Lion Code and National Control Plan legislation. The intermediate package includes extra services, plus discounts on vet visits and post-mortems (as required). The premium package is a comprehensive service to proactively prevent disease, analyse data and implement changes in each cycle to continuously improve performance. We also formulate bespoke packages if required.

The price of the packages is fixed for a year; so if you take one of our packages in August 2023, you will have all your salmonella testing and vet fees included in the package until August 2024. Therefore, you can budget vet and lab costs for the next 12 months without increases during this time.

For detailed information on what each package includes, please visit our website:

www.poultryhealthservices.com and access the services area of the site.

The price of the packages varies depending on the number of houses on the farm. If you require a quote, please email our Commercial Manager, Nikky Motley: [email protected] with the type of production (broiler/layer), number of farms, number of houses, and number of birds per house.

The New Lion Code of Practice – Version 8

The New Lion Code of Practice – Version 8 became effective in June 2023. You can access the new version electronically. To leave time for everyone to familiarise themselves with the new code of practice, the audits for implementation will start on the 1st of September 2023.   The new code brings some changes regarding biosecurity, restocking visits by a vet following AI, veterinary visits for the health plan renewal, salmonella testing protocols, training, and egg storage/packaging. If you have any questions regarding the changes, please contact your local PHS branch and we will be delighted to help.

Farm 24 – August 3rd, 2023

PHS will be getting behind Farm 24 again this year. Farm 24 is 24 hours in Farming, which is sponsored by Morrisons. Also known as #FARM24, agriculture’s biggest digital extravaganza showcases the extraordinary role of British farmers to the general public, as the nation’s most trusted food producers and guardians of our iconic countryside.

Starting at 5 am on August 3rd, farmers and industry organisations throughout the UK will join forces again, harnessing social media’s immense power to bring farming closer to the masses.

Supported by Morrisons, this flagship campaign will highlight what a typical day in agriculture can look like and educate consumers on the incredible journey from farm to fork.

Congratulations to Emma King

Emma, along with PHS Clinical Director Sara Perez, attended the award ceremony in London back in July.
