New Veterinary Attestation Requirements

From 13 December 2023, unless you are part of an assurance scheme, farmers need a signed declaration from their vet. The purpose of a vet attestation is to comply with export requirements to verify the absence of notifiable disease and provide general advice on farm biosecurity.

There are a number of recognised assurance schemes which already require a vet visit and therefore these farms do not require an additional visit.  Those schemes are:

  •  Red Tractor
  •  Farm Assured Welsh Livestock Beef and Lamb Scheme (FAWL)/Welsh Lamb and Beef Producers Ltd (WLBP)
  •  Quality Meat Scotland (QMS)
  •  Lion Code
  •  Poultry Health Scheme
  •  Pathway Vet visits under the annual health and welfare review, government scheme (England only).

If you still do not have a VAN (Vet Attestation Number) or you are unsure whether you need one, please contact us so that we  can  advise accordingly.

Penalty notices introduced in England for animal health & welfare offences

Following the public consultation earlier this year in which more than 85% (source Defra) of respondents supported the introduction of penalty notices as an enforcement tool, government has laid down new legislation. The new legislation, which applies to England only, will introduce the option to issue fixed penalty notices of up to £5,000 for a range of animal health and welfare related offences e.g. breaching mandatory housing orders. The penalty notice gives individuals the opportunity to avoid prosecution for a criminal offence by paying a fee. More information can be found in the DEFRA website: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/penalty-notices-introduced-for-animal-health-and-welfare-offences

Product of the month: AgriCure Enteroguard

At, PHS, we have our own brand of nutraceuticals. As the bird needs are ever changing in accordance with improvements in genetics, our supplements range has been reformulated to reflect this. Our AgriCure range is only available through PHS and can’t be found through other vet practices or agricultural suppliers.

Enteroguard helps to stabilise the gut flora and protect the digestive system, reducing the risk of bacterial infections, coccidiosis, worms, and histamonas which causes blackhead. Enteroguard contains oregano-based compounds which increase the production of mucus in the intestines, promoting a healthy barrier between the gut wall and the contents, without impairing food digestion. Use Enteroguard for 3-5 days during the risk periods of parasites such as coccidia and worms to maintain high performance and gut health. A 5L drum is enough to treat 25,000L of drinking water. Due to the large volumes of product sold during 2023, we have been able to negotiate on price with suppliers and these savings will be  passed to clients this year.  The price of Enteroguard in 2023 was £108.86+VAT and it will be decreased to just £67.15 ex VAT per 5L drum this year.

Don’t  miss our February Newsletter, when we will be talking about another product from our Agricure range.
